Praveen Sood took charge as the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation Agency (CBI) on Thursday. With this, the tenure of the current director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal has come to an end. The central government has selected Praveen Sood as the CBI director on the recommendation of a three-member committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, and CJI Dhananjaya Chandrachud.
Jaiswal is a Maharashtra cadre officer. He was appointed as CBI Director this afternoon. In the past, Praveen Sood worked as the Director General of Karnataka Police. The three-member committee also examined the names of Madhya Pradesh Police Director General Sudhir Kumar Saxena and Delhi Fire and Home Guards Director General Taj Hasan. In the end, the committee favored Praveen Sood.
Meanwhile, the day after the results of the Karnataka assembly elections came out, it became a priority for the Center to appoint him as the key director of the CBI. IPS officer Praveen Sood belongs to the 1986 batch of the Karnataka cadre. He will continue as director for two years.
