With the change of government in Karnataka, the police chief also changed. Praveen Sood (here his DGP) has been promoted. He was appointed head of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the recommendation of a committee of opposition leaders, the CJI, and the prime minister. As a result, the Karnataka government appointed Alok Mohan as Chief of Police in his place.

The notification states that Praveen Sood will be relieved from the post of the state government on May 22. At the same time, the Congress government announced the appointment of Dr. Alok Mohan as the state’s new Director General of Police. He was appointed as the State Director General of Police, Home Guards.

Dr. Alok Mohan is a 1987 batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre. Served as DGP of Fire Brigade and Emergency Services. He has 36 years of experience in various roles. He held the DGP of Prisons Department posts, the Joint Commissioner of Bangalore City Crime Branch, and the ADGP of ACB. He will retire as DGP in April 2025.
